Favorite Spring Trends
writes, "With Spring comes revived energy, a happy feeling when we think of warmer, longer days and excitement for the change of season. I feel the same revived energy with some of the trends that are in the forefront this Spring and Summer. It's no secret that color is big this year, but that isn't the only trend we are seeing. Here are a few that are easy to jump in on. Stay tuned for the May blog where I'll go into more detail about how to make wearing these trends easy. "
1. Printed Denim
The Good: Animal print, specifically snake print. It's everywhere and most I've seen are great! It's easy to create a neutral, sophisticated look and even easier to create an edgy rock-n-roll vibe. I've also seen some great tie-dyes for a colorful, fresh look.

The Bad: Think Waverly floral bouquet in an Easter egg color palette. Don't get me wrong, I've seen some great floral prints but I've also seen a lot of scary ones. I won't even start on the clown suit striping.

2. Color Blocking.
The Good: Classic black and white. Tops and dresses that do the color blocking for you while creating a crisp, clean look. It is easy to create your own look by pairing solids in tops and bottoms along with a pop from accessories and shoes. You can create a great look with only two or three colors.

The Bad: Those hot-dog-on-a-stick uniforms. Secretly I like them, but they just don't translate into day wear. Color blocking combines two or more blocks of solid color in an outfit. Please realize it is easy to over-do it. Proceed with caution!

3. Crochet.
The Good: Beachy open weave tanks and sweaters in gorgeous neutrals as well as vibrant brights. We love them short and boxy, long and lean, open and airy, tight and meshy...we just like them!

The Bad: Macrame holders for hanging pots, afghan blankets in those strange nonsensical color combinations. Beware if you get too folksy or too Woodstock - your crochet look can quickly become strange and outdated. And remember: Crochet swim suits stretch when wet, ladies!

4. Crop Tops
The Good: Think hi-low (cropped in the front longer in the back). You can picture that paired with your favorite skinnys. Think boxy with a slight off the shoulder sleeve or an interesting neckline. Think layering piece to add form and fit.

The Bad: Crop tops that are too tight, too short, too sloppy or have you thinking too much about all of the old 80's sitcoms.

5. Bold Prints
The Good: Aztec, tribal, batik, Missoni, chevron zig-zag, and wavy stripes. It's a must to pick up something with one of these colorful, artistic patterns this season. It's the perfect way to update last years' pieces as well as add interest to your closet. You can do it bold in a printed denim bottom, in between in a top or jacket, or subtle with a scarf or shoe.

The Bad: Don't over-do it! Just like animal print...a little goes a long way my friends. Don't try for a head-to-toe look unless you are on the runway.

Most of all, use these new trends to have fun with your wardrobe and make it stretch!
