Handmade Holiday Workshop, Week 7: No-Sew Tshirt Scarf
writes, "This project is eco-friendly and so quick & easy! Tie up a scarf for your best friend or your teacher."
Materials:
6 or 7 Tshirts that you no longer wear
Sharp fabric scissors

Directions:
1) Choose & Cut Your Colors
Help your child choose the Tshirts to use. Tshirts that have stains on the front are perfect because you can just use the back. We chose all greens and blues, but any color combination your child creates will look artful and unique. If you don't have enough shirts at home, make a quick trip to a thrift store for a great selection of Tshirts {be sure to wash them first}. Carefully using sharp scissors, cut out the backs of the shirts. We were able to cut long, narrow rectangles, just inside the side seams, leaving the bottom seam intact. This is good hand-eye coordination practice, but perfectly straight cuts are not necessary {crooked edges won't show on the finished scarf}. Just have you child do their best & straightest cuts.

2) Tie Your Scarf
Just a simple overhand knot is all your child will need to secure the pieces together, and as a bonus, the knots will look like flower bows! Knot one section to the next, until the scarf is long enough to wrap around a couple times. Have them pull the knots tight to make sure each one is secure. We made sure that our scarf ends were intact bottom Tshirt seams, but even the raw ends would be fine.

3) Giving
This scarf would look great wrapped up in extra Tshirt fabric and tied with an extra-skinny version of your scarf!

One variation: Try making a matching "bow flower" headband using just two pieces of Tshirt.

Fast, easy, hip, earth-friendly, and cheap. This is a perfect last-minute project!
