Recycled Paper Owls
writes, "Now is a great time to put those pretty cards and that leftover wrapping paper to good use by having your child make recycled paper owls to add to their thank-you notes."
Materials:
Owl stencil {see below}
Glue stick or double-stick tape
Lightweight cardboard {like a cereal box}
Scissors
Leftover holiday papers {holiday wrap, holiday cards, magazines}
Black permanent marker

1) Make a Stencil
Download and print a template at my blog: http://five-ten-fifteen.blogspot.com/2011/12/art-paper-scissors-recycled-paper-owls.html. Help your child glue or tape it to lightweight cardboard {like a cereal box} and cut it out.

2) Trace, Cut, Fold, Glue, & Add Eyes
Give your child several leftover holiday papers {wrapping paper, cards, pages from magazines}. Show them how to hold the stencil down and trace around it. Help your child cut out the shape. Show your child how to fold over the pointed end to create the owl beak, then glue or tape it down. Have your child add two eyes with a black marker.

3) Decorate a Plain Note or Card
Using a glue stick or double-stick tape, have your child attach an owl to a card or piece of paper. Their thank-you note is almost done!

Other ideas:
~ Turn your owls into adorable gift tags. Glue or tape your owl to a larger plain tag.
~ Turn your owls into place cards for a dinner party. Write each person's name on an owl tummy and put one at each place setting.
~ Turn your owls into an owl bunting. Fold several owl beaks side-by-side over a long piece of yarn or twine.
