Penne Chevron Necklace
writes, "Have you noticed? Chevrons are everywhere. This is THE macaroni necklace for Spring 2012."
Materials:
Penne pasta
Food coloring
Rubbing alcohol
Hot glue gun
Felt
Scissors
Large needle or small hole punch
Yarn

1) Color {do this the night before}
The general ratio is this: 1 cup of dry pasta, a few drops of food coloring, a tablespoon of rubbing alcohol. Place all 3 in a lidded plastic container and shake until well coated. Spread on a cookie sheet to dry overnight. We did red, green, and blue. Keep in mind that pasta is yellowish to begin with, so your colors will all have a yellow tone. {I will recommend against trying to mix red and blue to make purple. Please, just take my word for it.}

2) Glue
Using a hot glue gun with utmost care, glue the colored penne to a piece of felt in repeating chevron shapes.

3) Cut
Once your pattern is complete, and the glue has cooled, cut the felt in a frame around your chevrons to create your pendant.

4) Hang
Use a tiny hole punch or a large, blunt needle to make at hole at both top corners. Thread with yarn and tie the ends together.

More Ideas:
~Continue the chevron pattern to the sides, to make a zig-zag pendant.
~Skip the yarn and turn one of your pendants into a refrigerator magnet. Just glue a couple strong magnets to the back of the felt.
~Let younger kids make chevron art on the inside of a recycled cereal box. White glue works great for this, and it's safe for them to do themselves.
