Folded Paper Diamond
writes, "Fold and color your very own paper diamond. With the bright rainbow colors and the beautiful geometry, there is so much to love about this project."
Materials:
Plain paper
Pencil
Ruler
Colored pencils

1) Fold
Fold your paper in half the fat way {hamburger style}. Keep it folded and fold in half again {hamburger style}.

Now for the tricky diagonal fold:
Set the twice-folded paper in front of you, like a book, making sure the top & left edges are folded edges, and the bottom & right edges are not. Your fold will be a diagonal line connecting the bottom left corner and the top right corner. Keeping those corners in mind, fold the bottom right corner up and to the left. {Note: When making this fold, the edges of the paper will not line up. Just focus on connecting the bottom left & top right corners.} After you fold & crease, open up your paper, and you should see 8 triangles. For the last fold, fold the paper straight across, about 1 3/4 inches above the center fold. This will make the top of your diamond. See a sample of the folded paper on my blog: http://five-ten-fifteen.blogspot.com/2012/03/art-paper-scissors-folded-paper-diamond.html

2) Add Straight Lines
Using a ruler and a regular pencil, lightly draw straight lines connecting different parts of your diamond. We measured one inch on either side of the center, and one inch from the outside edges to create more points to connect. The shapes you make will be triangles and trapezoids - there is a lot to learn with this project!

3) Add Some Color
Define each shape you made with its own color. Colored pencils will work great for these precise edges and tiny points. In the diamond above, the colors in the top of the diamond are warm, while the colors in the bottom are cool. How will you design yours?

Another Idea:
~Try this with heavier paper: Use black crayon for the lines and watercolors for the shapes.
~For younger kids, you can draw the lines with black crayon for them, and let them use crayons to color in the shapes.
