Felt Bracelet / Coffee Cozy |
catie writes, "You can make one of these pretty and useful cuffs in about five minutes flat. It can be worn as a bracelet, then wrapped around a cup of coffee to protect your hands from the heat."
|
Materials:
Felt {wool felt, eco felt, or an old felted sweater}
Wide ribbon or trim {about 1 inch wide}
Sewing machine {or hot glue gun}
1) Cut Felt
Cut your felt to 2 1/2 inches x 8 inches.
2) Cut Ribbon
Cut your ribbon to a length of 24 inches.
3) Sew {or glue}
Sew your ribbon down the center of your felt. Sew along both edges of the ribbon, but only along the center 5 or 6 inches. By not sewing the ribbon down to the ends of the felt, you will allow the ends of the felt to overlap when it's tied onto your wrist, then extend around a coffee cup. {See my blog for another photo illustrating this: http://five-ten-fifteen.blogspot.com/2012/05/art-paper-scissors-felt-bracelet-coffee.html } If you don't have a sewing machine, you can use a hot glue gun to attach the ribbon to the felt along the edges you would sew.
4) Wear
Have someone help you tie the bracelet onto your wrist. Tying a bow will make it easy to untie. When you arrive at your favorite coffee shop, just untie, then carefully re-tie around your hot cup. Brace yourself for envious stares from everyone using a standard, wasteful cardboard coffee cuff. {You can direct them to everythingeagle.net so they can make their own!} This cuff will also dress up any stainless steel coffee cup. Three cheers for choosing sustainable over disposable.
Other Ideas:
~ You could make a longer "cuff" to create a headband.
~ Wrap another small present in fabric or tissue paper, then tie with your cuff
~ Add some lace trim behind the ribbon before you sew it for a more layered look.
