Black & White Drawing With Colored Tissue Paper
writes, "This open ended art project introduces a new way to think about color, by adding tissue paper to a black & white drawing. You could have a specific theme {butterflies, flowers, animals}, or allow your artist to draw anything they want. Encourage creative writing by adding a short story or description."
Materials:
White construction paper (or other thick paper)
Pencil
Black crayon or black colored pencil
Scissors
Watered-down glue
Paintbrush

1) Draw
Using a pencil, draw a picture on a piece of white construction paper. Go over your pencil lines with black crayon or black colored pencil. You can add words or a story to your drawing.

2) Add Color
Cut or tear colored tissue paper into shapes to fit inside or around the things you have drawn. Shapes can be traced to fit exactly, or cut purposely larger so that the tissue paper spills over the edges of the drawing. "Paint" the watered-down glue over the tops of the shapes to adhere them to your drawing {if the glue doesn't seep through to the tissue paper, just paint some glue underneath}. Your drawing will show through the glued tissue paper. Try layering different colors together, letting the colors blend. Sometimes the color will "bleed" from the tissue paper, allowing you to paint with the wet color. In addition to cutting flat shapes, try crumpling some tissue paper to create some 3D shapes. This is a good time to practice folding and cutting different shapes.

3) Mount
Once your picture is dry, glue it to a larger piece of black construction paper to give it a masterpiece finish.

Other Ideas:
~ Try drawing a person, then adding tissue paper clothes and shoes.
~ After painting the tissue paper onto your white paper, try peeling it off, leaving only the color behind.
