Paper Curls |
catie writes, "Prepare to be amazed at how easy & fun it is to turn thin strips of paper into cascades of curls. Fill a mason jar {or wooden bowl or wicker basket} with a fluffy pile of colorful paper curls. "

Materials:
Paper {any kind}
Paper cutter
Butter knife
1) Hunt for Pretty Paper
We used sheet music, fancy art papers, bingo score sheets, and magazine pages. The prettiest curls were made from a nature magazine with underwater scenes - the color faded from light blue to deep blue giving our curls a striped look. Images of sunsets or mountains will have the same effect of gradation.
2) Cut
Using a paper cutter, cut lengthwise strips that are approximately 1/2 inch wide. {If you don't have a paper cutter, you can use one at any copy center or cut your strips with scissors.}
3) Curl
Just like curling a ribbon, use your thumb to hold your paper strip against a firm edge and pull from end to end. A butter knife is a safe choice, but safety scissors work just as well.
More Ideas:
~Fill a pretty package using paper curls instead of packing peanuts.
~Embellish a pair of earrings by pushing a stud through one end of a pretty curl, letting it spiral down.
~Keep each color in a separate mason jar and make a rainbow row of jars for your mantel.
~Draw a picture of a person & glue on paper curls for hair.
~Add a few wooden eggs to a bowl of brown paper curls for a springtime nest.
