Disneyland Dentistry |

Honestly, who likes going to the dentist? I cringe when I have to go and it's pretty uncomfortable to say the least. You sit there, trying to answer questions while your doctor is elbow-deep in your mouth. If this weren't bad enough, you also have a blinding light glaring into your eyes, while spit, fluoride, and other projectiles are flying everywhere. You sit in that chair, hoping with crossed fingers that God forbid you don't have something else wrong with your teeth (such as a cavity or the ever-dreaded root canal). Procedures that would require extra trips back to the dentist, a decent amount of pain, and some serious cash in the process.
Going to the dentist is definitely not fun...unless of course, you are a kid.
Yes, you heard me right. Kids have all of the fun-especially at the dentist's office.
Recently, I took my brood (this includes a rambunctious and temperamental toddler), to the dentist. I don't know what would possess me to do so but I figured I just needed to get the appointment done and over with. They all needed a cleaning and if things got really crazy, the nitrous oxide had to be in reaching distance, right?
That's when it happened...a molar miracle took place right in front of my very eyes.
As soon as we walked into the pediatric dental office of Dr. Streeby located in downtown Eagle, we were transported into another world. Yes, people-we had officially entered the Disneyland of dentistry. Gaming stations with the latest and greatest video games, a space ship lounging area with plasmas playing cartoons to boot, and a staff that was so friendly, I thought I had died and gone to customer service heaven.
But that was just the waiting room.
As we were escorted back by our tour guide [hygienist], I was trying to take it all in. This place was unreal and even better, my kids didn't realize that they were about to get their teeth cleaned. How could they? As soon as they propped themselves up on those tables, they were provided a cool pair of sunglasses to fend off that blinding light, and plasma screens playing a fabulous and oh-so-distracting cartoon.
Even my toddler (you know, the temperamental one), threw on some shades, and watched TV while the dentist cleaned his teeth. A two year-old got his teeth cleaned without even a whimper or inkling of a tantrum!
This was something special.
It also made me think-why can't dentists incorporate this type of atmosphere for adults? Why can't I get a pair of sunglasses and possibly a plasma TV located above my head so I can catch up on the latest episode of the Real Housewives of New Jersey? If that were the case, I probably wouldn't mind them drilling my molars, poking my bicuspids, or polishing my incisors.
That would be cool. Way cool.
How about you? What would make your dental visit a bit more pleasant to endure?
