Enter the Internet
writes, "My daughter has reached the ripe old age of eight and has already begun asking for an all access pass to the Internet. "
Computers. For me, it's definitely a love/hate relationship. When everything is functioning correctly and going as planned, I am a huge fan of them. But when my computer suffers a meltdown without any warning, taking some of my "oh-so-precious" pictures with it, technology is definitely the enemy. Either way, this stuff is here to stay so I had better get on board with it or get left behind in the process.

What about kids though? Where do they fit into this picture?

These days kids are extremely computer savvy. I mean, it's great that my six-year-old son can design a spreadsheet but Lord knows, he shouldn't be exposed to the contents of the Internet anytime soon! That being said, there are still plenty of kids with email accounts, Twitter and Facebook pages to boot. This leads us to the big question. At what point should our kids start toiling with such technology?

This is a personal decision and of course the answer is going to vary within each family. My daughter has reached the ripe old age of eight and has already begun asking for an all access pass to the Internet. To tell you the truth, it's pretty scary. I did mention she was only eight, right? She's not even a teenager or a tween yet and she's already asking for access to an adult world. I'm so hosed.

Or am I?

Recently, my mother-in-law filled me in on this great new online emailing website just for kids and parents and I totally had to share. As soon as I typed in the URL, it immediately let me know that I was in charge. That's what I like to hear! I liked it, I loved it, and wanted some more of it (did any of you country music fans pick up on those lyrics? I thought so). I liked the fact that my daughter could only email the people I put in her contact list. I loved the fact that no creepy online predators could get access to her account, and I adored that I was in control (yes, I like control).

Sounds pretty good, right? Safety, security, and parental controls! Make sure to check it out for yourself, especially for you parents who are just starting to entertain the idea of your kiddos mixing with the Internet.
