Handmade Holiday Workshop, Week 5: Found Object Ornaments |
catie writes, "This eco-friendly project can be a fun treasure hunt with your child. Search your attic, your garage, or local thrift store for small items that can be transformed into unique ornaments. Keep your eyes open for items that would be perfect to give special people in your life."

Materials:
Any small object that catches your child's eye
{and has a place to thread a ribbon}
Pretty ribbon for hanging
Directions:
Give your child some guidelines before searching for found objects. I took my 12-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son to a thrift shop.
Their treasure hunt guidelines were: 1. Small inexpensive items that were not already holiday-themed, and 2. could be hung from a loop of ribbon.
We brought along some ribbon to test questionable items. The treasures we found: a green mini dictionary, a mini screwdriver, a vintage brooch, a large fishing lure {we cut the barbs off}, a tiny vase, a teacup, a wooden spool of thread, a tiny picture frame, and a heavy wax seal stamper. We threaded lengths of ribbon through the items long enough to hang on a tree.
Your ornaments will be one-of-a-kind treasures, and your kids will see old things in a new way.
