Pet Rock
writes, "Would your summer vacation be complete without a pet rock? I think we both know the answer. Make one {or a ton} today."
Materials:
Rocks
Googly eyes
Glue
Black permanent marker
Chalk {for dark rocks}
Other materials: beads, pipe cleaner, yarn, puff balls, feathers, felt

1) Find Your Rock
Search your yard for your very own pet rock. Please don't take rocks from your neighbor's yard without asking first.

2) Clean Your Rock
Rocks tend to be dirty, so give it a rinse with the hose. Dry it with an old towel.

3) Decorate Your Rock
Take a moment to get a sense for your pet rock's personality. This will dictate all of your decorating decisions.

EYES: Pet rock eyes can be far apart {wide set} or close together {close set}. Glue on googly eyes {try 2 different sizes}, or draw eyes with a marker.

MOUTH: Will you make a tiny little mouth, or one that goes from edge to edge? Draw your pet rock's mouth with marker or chalk, or glue on a piece of pipe cleaner or yarn.

If your rock still needs more, you could add a bead nose, yarn hair, rosy cheeks {a circle of pink marker or felt}, yarn eyebrows, feather eyelashes, a puff ball tail...

More Ideas:
~ Who can stop at just one? Make a friend for your pet rock - the more the merrier.
~ Create a pet rock band representing everyone in your family.
~ For a deluxe finishing touch, cut a circle of felt and glue it to the bottom of your pet rock.
~ What about a pet brick? Be careful, it will be heavy.
