Hardware Wrap Bracelet, Two Different Ways |
catie writes, "Organic, rustic, & industrial, these wrap bracelets could not be easier to make or more stylish to wear."
|
Materials:
Metal pieces {from the hardware store}
Faux suede cord {from the craft or fabric store}
1) Hardware Hunt
Head to your local hardware store. I just walked the aisles of Evan's Ace Hardware in Eagle until I found two pieces that would work: a single link of brass plated chain {Smitty cut it from the roll}, and a copper cylinder {called a coupling}. At home, I gently hammered the coupling {cushioned on a thick magazine} to change it's shape from round to oval. You could also use a vintage metal piece found in your garage or garden shed.
2) String and Wrap
~ The first style uses a circle or link: Using two long lengths of faux suede cord {about 4 ft. each}, make two girth hitches on either side of the circle, then wrap a few times around your wrist and tie the ends. See a girth hitch here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cow_hitch. Trim the excess ends or leave them long.
~ The second style uses a small cylinder or tube: Using one long length of faux suede cord {about 4 ft.}, fold the cord over twice to make a four-ply strand {no need to cut it}. Thread through the cylinder and tie the ends.
More Ideas:
~ Try using ribbon or strips of fabric in place of the faux suede cord.
~ Both of these bracelets can be easily converted into necklaces.
~ Wrap your bracelet in a handmade handkerchief {http://everythingeagle.net/pages/Blogs/op/extended/article/344} to give it as a special handmade gift.
